In 2001, Great Britain saw the worst outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease in the world - ever! While the media quite rightly concentrated on the human consequences of the tragedy and the wholesale slaughter of livestock, it was sometimes overlooked that the faithful and ubiquitous farm dog - the Border Collie - was also a victim of this terrible plague.  While many farmers were forced out of business,  others decided that enough was enough and to leave the profession once and for all.
Their stalwart and loyal side-kicks, being generally unsuited to a simple domestic existence, were sent to animal rescue centres, with little hope of being re-homed, or else destroyed.
Despite my small reputation for painting gun dogs, Border Collies are my favourite breed. Border Patrol is my tribute to this popular and highly intelligent dog. It is my first digital print that I have produced for general release. I hope that you like it.
