Text Box:             Early Risers Rise before daybreak, up with the lark Peer through the curtains still very dark Dress myself quickly nip in the air Put on my slippers comb through my hair Into the bathroom answer a call Slip down the staircase enter the hall   Into the kitchen dogs start to stir Stretching and yawning and scratching of fur Happy to see me they whimper and beg They lick at my hands they paw at my leg I top-up their water both take a drink Find them a treat from the bag by the sink   Strong cup of coffee, Columbian roast Just what I'm needing with hot, buttered toast On with a jacket, my boots and a hat The dogs are impatient claw at the mat I turn the key slowly throw the door wide Dogs in excitement go dashing outside   The first signs of daybreak deep orange glow Highlights the dogs which race to and fro And mist shrouded meadows dawns heavy dew I lift the gate latch the dogs scuttle through Run to the river, which mirrors the sky Harry the Mallards that panic and fly   Look to the east the tree-fringed horizon The fiery orb all life relies on Is starting to rise, brings new warmth and light The sky set ablaze a breathtaking sight New day is dawning and needless to say This is my favourite time of the day
