I see it as a natural progression from Weather or Not and Big Brother. Many professional photographers still use monochrome, preferring its mood, tonal qualities and grain to that of colour film. We are so conditioned to seeing everything in full colour today, especially where art is concerned. The current 'contemporary' movement, which relies in most part on the use of bold, bright colour is the absolute counterpoint to black and white. I've attempted to use that effect here, by emphasising the monochromatic qualities of the dog and its tonal background with the falling, Autumnal leaves, painted in exaggerated hues of orange, blues and red-browns. In the same way that the colour of the leaves complements the black and white dog, I think that the movement and energy in the dog's pose is underlined by the leaves gentle tumble.
